Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

We offer the latest innovation in radiation treatment of cancer: “dynamic” IMRT, which uses 120 movable “leaves” to conform the intended radiation dose to the shape of the tumor while minimizing doses to normal tissue. The shape and position of the tumor are determined from computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) diagnostic studies. This permits improved dose sculpturing over 3-D conformal radiation therapy.

3-D Conformal Radiation Therapy

This advanced therapy involves the use of CT, MRI and PET to image and reconstruct the tumor and surrounding tissue in three dimensions. These images are used to develop treatment plans using a multi-leaf collimator (MLC) to deliver precisely focused radiation to the tumor while sparing normal adjacent tissue.

HDR and LDR Brachytherapy

With this innovative form of radiotherapy, radioactive sources are placed directly into (or near) the tumor. Once in place, the sources emit radiation continuously to the targeted site with reduced dose to surrounding healthy tissue. We offer both highdose-rate (HDR) and low-dose-rate (LDR) for different situations. With HDR brachytherapy, the radioactive source is used to give a high dose of radiation for up to a few minutes and is then withdrawn. Also, Mojave Cancer Center is one of only a few practices in the Apple Valley and surrounding areas to offer this specialized level of brachytherapy.

Real-time Digital Imaging

Our linear accelerator is equipped with an electronic portal imaging device (EPID) that delivers real-time digital X-rays directly to the operator and physician workstations. These images can greatly enhance treatment accuracy, block shaping, IMRT verification and patient positioning.

3-D and IMRT Treatment Planning

For external-beam radiotherapies, we create “inverse” treatment plans and we are one of only a few facilities in the Apple Valley (and surrounding areas) to utilize a three-dimensional treatment planning system. We combine sophisticated computer technology and imaging modalities, such as CT, MRI and PET, to identify tumor tissue and normal structures. Advanced software then inversely maps ideal treatment delivery. In addition, we can “fuse” images from different medical imaging modalities (CT, MRI, PET, etc.) to get a more accurate map of the target... and therefore to deliver a more precise dose of radiation.

SonArray™ Localization

This advanced, high-precision ultrasound-based system enables us to precisely position — and treat — the target of IMRT’s radiation beam, particularly for prostate cancer.

Access to Diagnostic Imaging On-site

St. Mary Regional Medical Center’s medical imaging facility is located a very short distance from our building, giving patients easy access to the full range of diagnostic exams required for treatment planning.

Collaborating With Referring Physicians

At Mojave Cancer Center, we work closely with primary-care physicians and other specialists involved in the patient’s treatment to ensure integrated care. We provide all parties with regular reports indicating the proposed treatment and the results achieved during and after the course of treatment. Plus, we always make ourselves available to discuss a patient’s case when needed. Additionally, Dr. Alqaisi is an active participant on numerous local Tumor Boards. It’s another reason why Mojave Cancer Center has established itself as the trusted choice of a many area doctors for their patients’ radiation oncology needs.

Hospice Services

Hospice services are available to patients in their homes through our network of hospice providers. These services include respite, pastoral, family support and other support services for the terminal patient.

Support Groups

Cancer patients and their families often find it helpful to join a support group to have an open forum to discuss their questions and concerns with people that understand first hand what they are experiencing. The Mojave Cancer Center understands this need and can put patients together with support groups in their local area.

Social Services

We can connect patients and their caregivers to licensed medical social workers who can assist with payment schedules and other issues or concerns.

Nutritional Services

Our Center provides patients with nutritional consultation. We also have referrals to registered dieticians who can counsel patients on nutritional therapies and prescribe personalized eating plans and follow-up.
